The countdown to the 2025 Asian Winter Games kicked off with a breathtaking flame-lighting ceremony in Harbin, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, blending ancient traditions with icy modern spectacle. Held at Sun Island Park on Major Cold – the final solar term of China’s lunar calendar – the event symbolized renewal and unity ahead of the epic winter sports showdown.

A Flame Born from Ice and Sun ☀️❄️

Organizers revealed they used sunlight and water from the Songhua River to ignite the flame, merging natural elements with cultural symbolism. \"This flame honors our passion for sports and the bonds between Asian athletes,\" said Tong Xiaoyu, Deputy Director of the Torch Relay Operations Office, highlighting the Games’ spirit of friendship and excellence.

Why Sun Island? 🏝️❄️

Chief Director Wang Zheng explained the venue’s significance: \"Sun Island’s snow sculptures and winter landscapes mirror the Games’ theme of harmony between humanity and nature.\" Attendees witnessed the ceremony alongside giant snow installations from the ongoing 37th Harbin Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Fair – a visual feast blending sport and art.

With the flame now lit, Harbin is set to become Asia’s winter sports hub in 2025, promising a celebration where frosty competitions meet warm cultural connections. ❄️🤝
