China Boosts Forestry & Grassland Conservation by 180% 🌱📈

As 2025 draws to a close, China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration reports a 180% surge in forestry and grassland germplasm conservation since 2020. Over 147,400 genetic samples of native trees 🌳, endangered grasses, and critical species have been collected during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), marking a major leap in biodiversity protection.

Improved seed varieties now power 76% of afforestation projects—up from 65% in 2020—accelerating reforestation efforts. Rare species like the Qinghai spruce and drought-resistant grasses are now safeguarded in a network of 7 national facilities and 209 conservation sites nationwide 🛡️.

🔍 Why it matters: This progress aligns with global climate goals, boosting carbon sinks and ecosystem resilience. A recent three-year action plan also tightened market oversight and innovation in genetic research, ensuring sustainable land use for future generations 🌍.
