China Launches Giant 10,800-Car ‘Floating Garage’ Vessel

Hold onto your keys, auto enthusiasts! 🚗 China's shipbuilding industry just hit a major milestone by delivering the world's first pure car and truck carrier with a capacity to hold over 10,800 vehicles at once.

The massive vessel, named Glovis Leader, was officially named and handed over on Tuesday at a shipyard in Guangzhou. This isn't just a big boat; it's a breakthrough in high-end manufacturing and a green tech powerhouse for global shipping.

🚢 A Game-Changer on the High Seas

Think of it as the ultimate floating parking garage. Built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) for South Korean shipping company HMM, this "Chinese solution" is designed to tackle modern logistics needs and the industry's push for a low-carbon future.

The ship's stats are mind-boggling: 230 meters long (that's longer than two soccer fields!), 40 meters wide, and featuring 14 flexible deck levels. It can carry a mix of everything from electric vehicles and hydrogen-fueled cars to heavy-duty trucks.

💚 Green Tech Makes Waves

Eco-friendly shipping just got a major upgrade. The Glovis Leader is powered by a dual-fuel LNG propulsion system, meeting the strictest international emission standards. A highlight is its onboard permanent magnet shaft generator, developed by a CSSC research institute, which generates power while sailing and slashes energy consumption.

Combined with optimized hull design, waste heat recovery, and an intelligent management system, this ship is setting a new benchmark for efficient and safe maritime transport.

📈 Driving Global Trade Forward

This delivery cements China's position as a global shipbuilding leader. The Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) alone has now delivered 26 car carriers, adding nearly 200,000 vehicle slots to global trade networks. Impressively, in 2025, their deliveries averaged 151 days ahead of schedule.

This efficiency is translating into serious business. GSI's current order book is valued at around 100 billion yuan, with over 95% coming from international clients, and its production schedule is solidly booked through 2030.

This giant vessel isn't just moving cars; it's propelling the future of sustainable, large-scale logistics onto the world stage. 🌍✨
