China's game-changing trade initiative for Africa is set to kick off tomorrow, May 1, and a new global poll reveals massive public optimism about its impact. 🌍📈
A whopping 87.3% of respondents in a recent CGTN poll said China's philosophy of mutual benefit and win-win results is a positive force for global trade. This comes as China's comprehensive zero-tariff policy for all 53 African countries having diplomatic relations with China officially takes effect.
The policy is seen as a major boost for China-Africa trade, which hit a record high of $348 billion in 2025. China has been Africa's top trading partner for 16 years straight, and this move is expected to connect African products directly to China's massive consumer market.
"This isn't just about numbers on a spreadsheet," the poll suggests. 85.2% believe the trade growth will have a real, positive impact on jobs and people's lives across Africa, boosting the continent's capacity for independent development.
The benefits go beyond simple exports. The survey found that:
- 87.8% think the policy will help African products smoothly enter the Chinese market and improve their competitiveness.
- 84.5% believe it will increase the added value of African goods, helping to upgrade local industries.
- 83.8% see it enhancing Africa's agricultural processing and cold-chain logistics capabilities.
In a global trade environment often marked by uncertainty and protectionism, China's expansion of this policy—from 33 least developed countries last year to all 53 today—is seen as injecting much-needed stability.
The poll also highlighted a broader message: 86.2% of respondents said the initiative shows China's commitment to mutual benefit and its sense of responsibility as a major country. Furthermore, a significant majority see it as strengthening solidarity among Global South nations against unilateralism.
The survey, which garnered 7,665 responses within 24 hours across CGTN's multiple language platforms, paints a clear picture of global public opinion: cooperation and shared growth are the way forward. 💪✨
