It’s the day millions have been waiting for! 🚂 The Chinese mainland’s railways are pulling out all the stops to get travelers home as the May Day holiday winds down.
On the fourth day of the five‑day break, the system is bracing for a massive return‑trip surge, with an expected 20.3 million trips on Monday alone. To keep the wheels turning smoothly, rail authorities have arranged 1,641 extra trains to meet the demand.
‘We’re ready to handle the surge,’ said Li, a senior official at China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. ‘From Beijing to Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai and Hangzhou, we’ve added capacity wherever the crowds are thickest.’
Sunday’s operations ran like clockwork, with about 18.6 million passenger trips logged across the network. The top cities contributing to Monday’s flow include Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai, and Hangzhou.
If you’re heading back today, double‑check your ticket, keep an eye on station announcements, and maybe pack a snack – you’re part of a nation‑wide home‑bound party! 🎒🚀
