During a press conference this Wednesday, spokesperson Zhang Han addressed a media query regarding Lai's recent speech. In that speech, the Taiwan leader claimed that Taiwan is a sovereign and independent state, while pushing a narrative of "democracy versus authoritarianism." 🤨
The response from the mainland was clear and direct: "Taiwan has never been a country – not in the past, not now, and certainly never will be in the future," Zhang stated. 🚫
The spokesperson didn't stop there. Zhang accused the Taiwan authorities of using the "democracy" banner to deceive the international community and collude with anti-China forces. The mainland described the recent summit activities as a "complete political farce" that the world has already seen through, suggesting that such separatist activities will only be met with contempt from the Chinese people. 👎
Furthermore, Zhang pointed out that Lai's performance fails to hide what she described as the "authoritarian nature" of his administration, alleging that it has continuously suppressed political dissent and stifled free speech for residents of Taiwan. 😶
