China Tells EU: Stop the Probe Drama! 🛑 Let’s Talk Trade Fairly 💼

Things are getting a bit tense between the Chinese mainland and the European Union (EU). 📉 China is calling on the European Commission (EC) to drop its "wrong practices" and stop using investigation tools—specifically the Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR)—to put unnecessary pressure on Chinese businesses.

So, what's the tea? ☕ Basically, China believes the EU is overstepping its boundaries. Just yesterday, on May 15, China's Ministry of Justice pointed out that the EU's cross-border probe into the company Nuctech constitutes "unlawful extraterritorial jurisdiction." In plain English: China feels the EU is trying to apply its rules in places where they simply don't belong.

It's not just about one company, though. A Ministry of Commerce (MOC) spokesperson spoke out this Saturday, noting that the EU has been ramping up both the frequency and the scope of these investigations. They've even been pushing Chinese banking institutions to cooperate by demanding huge amounts of information that are broad in scope and totally unrelated to the actual probes. Definitely not the kind of vibe you want when trying to run a global business! 😬

This isn't a new argument. Back in January 2025, the MOC conducted an investigation and determined that these FSR-related practices were creating actual barriers to trade and investment. While China urged the EU to correct its course back then, the spokesperson noted that the EU has unfortunately persisted in going "further down the wrong path."

Despite the friction, China is still keeping the door open for a peaceful resolution. They've always maintained that differences should be managed through dialogue and friendly consultations. 🤝 However, they also sent a clear signal: China will closely monitor the EU's moves and take "necessary measures" to firmly safeguard national security and the legitimate rights of its enterprises.

Will the EU pivot toward a more predictable business environment, or is this trade drama just getting started? We'll be keeping an eye on it! 🌍✨
