Beijing's Cultural Hub Throws Open Doors for Anniversary Spectacle

Laser-eyed robotic lion dancers prowled marble corridors while artisans demonstrated 2,000-year-old embroidery techniques – this was the scene yesterday as Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) celebrated its 18th anniversary with a free public carnival 🎪.

Since opening on December 22, 2007, the titanium-domed landmark has hosted over 15,000 performances. But this weekend, visitors became the stars through:

  • 🤖 Interactive tech installations merging AI with Peking opera
  • 🧵 Hands-on workshops for intangible cultural heritage crafts
  • 🎭 Pop-up performances across 12 themed zones

'It's like walking through China's past and future simultaneously,' said 24-year-old design student Li Meiying, trying VR opera goggles. International tourists like Marco Silva from Portugal called it 'the perfect cultural bridge.'

The carnival continues through New Year's Eve, with free tickets available via NCPA's app. As night fell yesterday, 1,825 digital lanterns – one for each year of operation – illuminated the complex in a dazzling light show 💡.
