The 16th Beijing International Film Festival is breaking records and barriers this year, with 1,826 films from 139 countries and regions competing for the Tiantan Award. 🎥 CGTN’s Liu Mohan caught up with two standout directors proving storytelling knows no borders:
🇳🇱 Mike van Diem: Crossing Moral Lines
The Oscar-winning Dutch director’s film "The Girls" challenges audiences to question "what moral borders they would cross." His work – already generating award buzz – shows how European narratives can spark global conversations.
🇲🇾 Woo Ming Jin: Growing Up Coastal
Malaysian director Woo’s coming-of-age drama "The Fox King", set in a coastal town, taps into universal themes of brotherhood. "Even in Malay language," he told CGTN, "Asian audiences connect deeply with these growing pains."
With 16 films in competition, jury president Juliette Binoche summed up the festival’s magic: "Cinema builds bridges of friendship… legends only film can create." ✨
