At Las Praderas nursing home in the Spain, there have been zero COVID-19 deaths as staff work tirelessly to keep the disease at bay. For a month and a half, the 95 residents at the home for elderly people in Pozuelo de Alarcón near Madrid have been in lockdown, cut off from the outside world but for the occasional Skype call to their families. 📞❤️
To meet and talk to the residents, as well as to take their pictures, visitors need special permission from the home's owners – and, just as importantly, must wear a protective suit, mask, and gloves, along with numerous other precautions. 🛡️😷
These protective measures have proven to be crucial. In the area, the normal monthly death toll in nursing homes is around 1,000 people, highlighting the severity of the coronavirus outbreak among the most vulnerable in Spain. 🌍💔 However, Las Praderas stands out with no deaths from the virus.
