In a solemn ceremony today, the remains of 12 Chinese People’s Volunteers (CPV) martyrs were returned to China from the Republic of Korea (ROK), honoring those who sacrificed their lives during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953). A Chinese Air Force Y-20B transport aircraft, deployed for the first time in repatriation efforts, carried the heroes to Shenyang, Liaoning Province, where they will be laid to rest at the CPV martyrs’ cemetery. Four J-20 stealth fighters escorted the aircraft upon its return to Chinese airspace—a gesture underscoring national reverence.
This marks the 13th repatriation since China and the ROK signed a remains-handover agreement in 2014. Over 1,000 soldiers’ remains have now been returned, a process that continues to bridge historical memory with present-day diplomacy. The event, live-streamed for global audiences, highlights ongoing efforts to honor wartime sacrifices while fostering cross-border cooperation. For young history buffs and peace advocates, this moment is a reminder of how past valor shapes today’s ties. 🕊️🇨🇳
