Trump Halts Iran Talks as Middle East Tensions Spike

🌍 Tensions in the Middle East are back in the spotlight this week after a major diplomatic shift from the United States. Here's what you need to know.

In a surprise move, US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he will no longer send delegations to negotiate with Iran. "If they (the Iranians) want to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us," Trump told Fox News. He also expressed "great respect" for Pakistan, which had been hosting the US-Iranian talks in Islamabad.

Iran responded swiftly. On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi blamed Washington's "excessive demands" for the collapse of the recent peace negotiations in Pakistan. He made the remarks upon arriving in Russia for a scheduled meeting with President Vladimir Putin, according to Iranian state media.

The diplomatic whirlwind intensified over the weekend. Araghchi was in Islamabad on Sunday for a second visit within about 24 hours, shuttling back from a brief stop in Oman as efforts to shore up a fragile ceasefire in the region continued.

As of today, the path forward remains unclear, with both sides seemingly at a stalemate. We'll keep you updated as this fast-moving situation develops. ⚡️
