🔥 A major grass fire that erupted on Wednesday in southwestern Sydney, New South Wales, has been tamed by brave fire crews, preventing further damage to nearby homes. 🏠
The blaze ignited just before 2 p.m. at a former amusement park site on the corner of Camden Valley Way and Cowpasture Road. Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) swiftly mobilized over 20 fire units, including bushfire tankers and 80 firefighters, to tackle the spreading flames. 🚒
Supported by the Rural Fire Service, Rail Fire and Emergency Service, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, and Transport for NSW, the team battled the fire fueled by strong winds, covering an area of 12 hectares. Two helicopters were deployed to waterbomb the hotspots, successfully containing the blaze. 🚁💦
The fire caused damage to two buildings, including an abandoned home, multiple outbuildings, and several caravans and trailers. During the intense firefighting efforts, one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation, another suffered an eye injury from smoke debris, and a civilian experienced chest pains but was promptly treated at home by paramedics. 💨👩🚒
With the fire now downgraded to the \"advice\" level, firefighters continue mopping up to extinguish lingering spotfires. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 🕵️♂️
