China & Dominica Strengthen Ties: Climate Action & Belt and Road in Focus 🌏🤝

In an exclusive interview with CMG’s Leaders Talk, Dominican President Sylvanie Burton highlighted the deepening partnership between China and the Caribbean nation, emphasizing collaboration on climate resilience, infrastructure, and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

🌊 President Burton praised China’s support during Dominica’s recovery from natural disasters, stating: "Post-hurricane rebuilding efforts were accelerated through Chinese-funded housing and renewable energy projects." She noted that BRI investments have boosted local employment and sustainable tourism.

🌱 With Dominica aiming to become the world’s first climate-resilient nation by 2030, Burton stressed the urgency of global cooperation: "Small island states face existential threats. China’s green tech initiatives are vital to our survival."

🤝 The president reaffirmed Dominica’s adherence to the one-China principle, calling it "the foundation of mutual trust." The discussion also touched on cultural exchanges, including plans for a 2026 U.N.-backed youth summit on climate justice in Roseau.
