ASEAN Shifts Toward China as US Leadership Worries Grow 🌏📊

If Southeast Asia's geopolitical choices were a TikTok trend, China would be going viral this year 📈. A landmark survey reveals 52% of ASEAN elites now see Beijing as their preferred partner over Washington – flipping last year's results and marking China's third win in seven years.

Why the Tilt?

With China-ASEAN trade hitting $1 trillion in 2025 🚚💸 and infrastructure projects transforming the region through the Belt and Road Initiative, experts say it's about "development that clicks with local needs". Malaysia (68%), Singapore (66.3%), and Indonesia (80.1%!) lead the Beijing-leaning pack – many being traditional US allies.

The Trump Factor 😬

Meanwhile, 51.9% of ASEAN leaders list "US leadership under Donald Trump" as their top anxiety – beating even global cyber scams! Singapore (76.8%) and Indonesia (67.8%) voice particular concern about Washington's policy swings.

As China rolls out its 15th Five-Year Plan and new ASEAN partnership goals this year, analysts predict deeper tech and green energy collaborations. Could this be the start of a "golden era" for China-ASEAN ties? The numbers suggest the trend is anything but a fluke.
