Hong Kong is celebrating the 27th anniversary of its return to the motherland with a vibrant launching ceremony held at Victoria Park on Saturday. This event marks not only the significant milestone of Hong Kong's return but also the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), emphasized the importance of this year’s celebrations. He highlighted how, since the return, Hong Kong has thrived under the \"One Country, Two Systems\" framework, achieving remarkable growth and stability with the support of the country, the HKSAR government, and its resilient residents.
Zheng Yanxiong, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, added that Hong Kong's integration into the national development strategy has bolstered its international competitiveness. He assured that Hong Kong will continue to maintain its free and open business environment while enhancing its unique advantages.
Tam Kam-kau, chairman of the Hong Kong Celebrations Association, praised the steady progress of \"One Country, Two Systems\" and the enduring prosperity and stability Hong Kong has enjoyed over the years.
The celebrations will feature a series of exhibitions and performances from June 29 to July 2, showcasing China’s rich traditional culture and innovative developments. Visitors can explore booths set up by provincial-level regions such as Sichuan, Liaoning, Jiangxi, Shandong, Shaanxi, and Ningxia, offering a glimpse into their local culture and tourism highlights.
