Boom! 💥 Blue Origin’s New Glenn Rocket Ends in Fireball During Test

Space goals just got a little more… explosive. 🚀🔥 Yesterday, Thursday, May 28, the space world watched in shock as an uncrewed Blue Origin New Glenn rocket turned into a massive fireball right on the launchpad during a critical test.

The livestream footage was straight out of a movie: the rocket ignited at around 21:00 ET, but instead of a graceful ascent, it erupted into a towering plume of flames and smoke that lit up the Florida sky. For Jeff Bezos' space venture, this is a pretty major setback, especially as they're trying to keep pace with the rapid-fire success of Elon Musk's SpaceX. The billionaire space race just got a bit more dramatic! 🌌

So, what actually happened? The incident occurred during a "hotfire test"—which is basically when engineers fire up the rocket engines while the vehicle is still anchored to the ground to make sure everything is working perfectly before a real launch. Unfortunately, this one didn't go according to plan.

Blue Origin took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the chaos, stating, "We experienced an anomaly during today's hotfire test. All personnel have been accounted for. We will provide updates as we learn more."

The good news? No one was hurt. 🛡️ Florida congressman Mike Haridopolos confirmed he's been in touch with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, praising the first responders and launch crews for their lightning-fast reactions on the scene.

While a fireball on the pad is definitely not the "vibe" Blue Origin was going for, the team is now tasked with figuring out what went wrong to get the New Glenn back on track. Stay tuned for more updates! 🛰️✨
