Serbia’s New PM: A Doctor Takes the Helm 💊🇷🇸

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has made a bold move in nominating Dr. Djuro Macut, a renowned endocrinologist and professor, as the country’s next prime minister. 🇷🇸 The 62-year-old medical expert, known for his work at the University of Belgrade, steps into the political spotlight amid calls for fresh leadership following the resignation of former PM Milos Vucevic.

Macut’s nomination now heads to parliament for approval, with a deadline of April 18 to form a new government. Vucic praised Macut’s "professional expertise and integrity," framing him as the right leader to tackle Serbia’s ambitious 2027 Expo preparations and improve healthcare, infrastructure, and green energy plans 🌱💡. The president also highlighted balancing European integration with "maintaining strong ties with traditional Eastern partners", a nod to Serbia’s geopolitical tightrope walk.

Challenges ahead include navigating U.S. tariff disputes, attracting foreign investment, and reviving domestic industries. Vucic urged Macut to build a "proactive team ready to push Serbia forward"—not one hiding in offices. 🏢➡️🚀

The transition comes after Vucevic’s resignation in January, linked to public anger over a 2024 railway station tragedy that killed 16. Now, all eyes are on whether this doctor-turned-leader can heal Serbia’s political divides.
