Sudan’s Missing: 11,000 Lost as War Rages Into 4th Year 🌍💔

Over 11,000 people have vanished in Sudan since civil war erupted three years ago, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) revealed this week. Families cling to hope while navigating shattered communication networks and relentless violence. 🔍

The crisis has displaced 14 million people—9 million within Sudan and 4.4 million fleeing to neighboring countries like Chad and South Sudan. Mohammed Jaafar, a motorcycle taxi driver in Port Sudan, shared his anguish: "My son was taken by fighters over a year ago. I’m alone now, haunted by his memory every day." 🏍️💔

The ICRC’s new report, released April 14, 2026, highlights a 40% spike in missing persons cases in the past year alone. While the agency helped reconnect families through 560,000+ phone calls in 2025, thousands remain untraceable. 📉

As the conflict enters its fourth year, the UN and aid groups demand an immediate ceasefire, safe humanitarian access, and protection for critical infrastructure. "Not knowing if your loved ones are alive is its own kind of torture," an ICRC spokesperson said. The agency’s hotline and tracing efforts continue, but answers remain scarce. 📞🌐
