🌍 The inaugural China-Africa Entrepreneurs Summit launched this week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with leaders from both sides pledging to deepen economic ties and unlock "shared prosperity" through innovation and trade. Held at the African Union (AU) headquarters, the event spotlighted Africa’s growing role as a global growth engine and China’s expanding investments in the continent.
Boosting Trade & Innovation
AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf highlighted Africa’s "untapped potential" and youthful population, urging Chinese businesses to invest in value chains and supply chains. Ethiopia’s President Taye Atske Selassie emphasized the "present reality" of Africa’s economic rise, fueled by the African Continental Free Trade Area and partnerships built on mutual respect.
🔥 A major announcement came from Jiang Feng of the Chinese Mission to the AU: Starting May 1, China will implement zero tariffs on all products from 53 African countries with diplomatic ties. This move aims to turn China’s massive market into a launchpad for African goods.
Next Steps for Collaboration
Li Qingyong of the China Chamber of Commerce to Africa called for aligning business growth with Africa’s industrialization, while entrepreneurs explored opportunities in green energy, digital tech, and agriculture. The summit also unveiled the China-Africa Entrepreneurs Partnership Alliance, a platform to turn pledges into action.
💡 With over 500 attendees, the event signals a shift toward private-sector-driven cooperation. As Youssouf put it: "When we put our strengths together, we can make a huge difference."
