IMO Demands Action as Middle East Shipping Attacks Surge 🚢⚡

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is sounding the alarm over rising attacks on commercial ships in the Middle East, with Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez calling for urgent de-escalation to protect 20,000 stranded seafarers. 🌍💥

‘Reckless Actions Must Stop’

Dominguez slammed recent ship seizures as ‘unacceptable,’ demanding immediate release of crews and vessels. At least 26 attacks have been confirmed this year, including 10 fatalities, as tensions near the Strait of Hormuz reach boiling point.

Why Risk Lives?

‘I can’t understand why companies endanger seafarers,’ Dominguez said, urging extreme caution for ships near Iran’s waters. The crisis deepened after the U.S. blocked Iranian ports in mid-April, sparking tit-for-tat seizures by Iranian forces.

Global Trade at Risk

With 20% of the world’s oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the IMO warns further disruptions could ripple through supply chains. 🛢️⚡ ‘Freedom of navigation is non-negotiable,’ Dominguez stressed.
