Imagine being told you can only live in half of your own home. For the 2.1 million people in Gaza, that’s not a thought experiment—it’s their daily reality. 🏚️ According to the latest update from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), residents remain confined to less than half of the Gaza Strip.
This restriction means people are blocked from reaching vital land reserves and critical facilities. Even worse? Getting medical help is a nightmare. While some medical evacuations happen, they only help a tiny fraction of those who desperately need specialized care in the West Bank or abroad. 🏥
The struggle doesn't stop at boundaries. Even though a ceasefire was declared over six months ago, hunger is still a haunting presence. 🍲 While partners are working hard—serving about 1.1 million meals every day through 120+ kitchens—the math just isn't adding up for everyone. Fresh food is way too expensive, leaving one in five families eating just a single meal a day. 😔
Things are getting even tougher in the kitchen. With a severe shortage of cooking gas, nearly 70% of families are forced to burn waste just to cook. That's a 13% jump from last month, creating dangerous conditions for thousands of homes. 🔥
Meanwhile, the situation in the West Bank remains volatile. Settler violence continues to push people out of their homes. Just last week, over 30 people in Hebron and Ramallah were displaced. Since 2023, more than 5,900 Palestinians have lost their homes to this violence, with about 2,000 of those displacements happening already this year. 📉
Despite the gloom, there are signs of resilience. Last week, humanitarian partners managed to get 5,000 bedding items, 600 kits, and hundreds of tents to over 4,400 families. It's a start, but the UN makes it clear: restrictions on critical items and humanitarian operations are still blocking the road to real recovery. 🌍✨
