Imagine a place where hunger isn't just a result of war, but a tool of it. That is the heartbreaking reality described in a new report by Doctors Without Borders (MSF). The medical charity is sounding the alarm, accusing Israel of deliberately restricting food and aid to create what they call a "manufactured malnutrition crisis" in Gaza. 📉
This isn't just a statistic—it's a human tragedy. MSF focused their analysis on four health facilities between late 2024 and early 2026, and the findings are chilling. The crisis has hit the most vulnerable the hardest: infants, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers. 🍼
The Heartbreaking Toll
According to MSF, the lack of essential goods and attacks on civilian infrastructure—including hospitals—have led to a spike in miscarriages and significantly higher rates of prematurity and infant mortality. In a study of over 200 mothers and newborns in Khan Yunis and Gaza City from last June to January, the data showed that over half of the women suffered from malnutrition during pregnancy, and a quarter were still malnourished when they gave birth. 🏥
Merce Rocaspana, MSF's medical referent for emergencies, pointed out a shocking contrast: before the conflict began on October 7, 2023, malnutrition in Gaza was almost non-existent. This shift suggests that the current suffering is not an accident of war, but a direct result of policy. 🌍
The Aid Struggle
The report also sheds light on the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a private organization backed by the US and Israel. Set up last year, the GHF was intended to largely replace the UN's role in distributing aid, but MSF's findings suggest the gap in essential care remains wide. 💬
Even though a ceasefire has been in place since last October—following two years of brutal conflict—the situation remains "extremely fragile." MSF is calling on Israeli authorities to stop the restrictions and allow life-saving supplies to enter Gaza immediately. Because at the end of the day, no child should be born into a crisis that was designed to happen. ✨
