Stop the Interference! 🚫 AU and UN Team Up to Protect Africa’s Peace

Imagine trying to fix a problem in your own house, but strangers keep coming in and adding fuel to the fire. That is exactly what's happening across Africa right now, and the leaders of the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) have had enough. 🌍

In a powerful joint press conference at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent a clear message to the world: external interference must stop.

The duo signed a new declaration to boost cooperation, but the real talk was about the security crises hitting regions like the Sahel, Sudan, the Horn of Africa, and eastern DR Congo. According to Youssouf, many of these conflicts aren't just local disputes—they are being fueled from abroad. He highlighted that financial resources, ammunition, and even fighters are being shipped in from other continents, making it nearly impossible for peace mediators to do their jobs. 🛡️

The AU's stance is simple and firm: "African solutions to African conflicts." Youssouf believes the AU must be the one leading peace negotiations to ensure the results actually serve the people living there, not the interests of outside powers.

Secretary-General Guterres didn't hold back either, calling it "absolutely intolerable" for outside countries to supply weapons or political support just to chase their own strategic or economic gains. 📉

One of the scariest parts of the current situation? The changing face of war. Guterres warned that we're seeing more drone attacks targeting civilians instead of traditional army-to-army fighting. He specifically denounced countries providing drones not manufactured in Africa, noting the "immense suffering" they cause for local residents. 🕊️

As the world becomes more digitally and politically connected, the call for authentic, local leadership in Africa is louder than ever. The AU and UN are now pushing for a common diplomacy that shuts the door on interference and opens the door to real, lasting political agreements. ✨
