What is Nakba Day? Everything You Need to Know About Today’s Commemorations 🌍

If you've been scrolling through your feed today, May 15, you've probably seen the term "Nakba Day" popping up everywhere. But what does it actually mean, and why are millions of people around the world marking it right now? Let's dive into the history. 💬✨

First things first: Nakba is the Arabic word for "catastrophe." Today, we are marking 78 years since the events that Palestinians remember as a defining tragedy of their history. It refers to the mass displacement and expulsion of about 750,000 Palestinians from their homes during the creation of the state of Israel back in 1948. 🏠💔

How did it all start?
While the main anniversary is today, the tension had been building throughout the 1940s. The real spark happened in 1947 when the UN General Assembly passed a resolution to split Palestine into two states—one Jewish and one Arab—with Jerusalem managed by the UN.

This plan wasn't accepted by the Arab world, who felt it violated the UN Charter. Meanwhile, things on the ground got intense as Zionist militias attacked hundreds of Palestinian villages, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes in what is known as the civil war of Mandatory Palestine.

The Turning Point
Fast forward to May 14
