A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded this Sunday morning in southwest Pakistan's Balochistan province. A blast targeting a shuttle of the Jaffar Express has left at least 24 people dead and 82 others injured, turning a journey home into a nightmare. 😔
The shuttle was carrying law enforcement personnel who were heading home to celebrate the Eid holidays with their families. The explosion happened around 8:05 a.m. local time, shortly after departing from the Quetta Cantonment. What was meant to be a joyful trip ended in chaos as multiple bogies derailed and two caught fire, with nearby vehicles also damaged in the blast. 🚂🔥
The human cost of this attack is devastating. Sources report that women and children were among the casualties. Currently, 57 of the injured have been moved to a military hospital, while another 25 are receiving care at the Civil Hospital in Quetta.
As for what happened, preliminary investigations suggest a chilling method: a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) packed with more than 70kg of explosives was used to carry out the attack. 💥
Our thoughts go out to the victims and their families during this difficult time. 🌍💬✨
