Tragedy in Kenya: 16 Students Lose Lives in School Dormitory Fire 💔

A wave of sadness has hit Kenya after a devastating fire swept through a girls' boarding school, claiming the lives of at least 16 students. 💔 The tragedy happened overnight at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil town, located in Nakuru County, about 120 kilometers northwest of Nairobi.

The blaze reportedly broke out shortly after midnight, turning a place of learning and safety into a nightmare. Witnesses say the fire raged for over two hours before emergency teams could finally bring it under control. For the students and staff there, it was a terrifying scramble for survival.

Education Minister Julius Migos Ogamba confirmed the heartbreaking toll, stating that 16 learners lost their lives and 79 others were injured. While many of the injured have since been discharged from the hospital, the emotional scars will remain for a long time. 🙏

Minister Ogamba shared a touching message of support: "It's an unfortunate incident… I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and relatives of the learners who lost their lives."

Heart-wrenching images from the scene show smoke-blackened walls and shattered windows, with anxious parents gathering outside, desperate for news about their missing daughters. One parent, Eunice Mureithi, whose daughter luckily escaped, mentioned that survivors saw flames spreading rapidly from an upper dome, trapping several students inside.

As of now, the cause of the fire remains a mystery. Authorities are urging everyone to avoid speculation while forensic teams conduct a thorough investigation to find out exactly what went wrong. 🔍

Our hearts go out to the students, families, and the entire community of Utumishi Girls Academy during this incredibly painful time. ✨
