Trade Talk Update: US and Mexico Kick Off USMCA Review! 🇲🇽🇺🇸

Ever wonder why some things are cheaper or easier to find in your neighborhood? A lot of it comes down to massive trade deals! Right now, Mexico and the US are diving deep into the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) to make sure everything is still running smoothly for the modern era. 📈

Mexican and US officials just wrapped up their first bilateral round of negotiations in Mexico City this past Friday. It wasn't just small talk—the teams tackled some heavy-hitting topics, including automotive rules of origin (which basically determine where car parts come from), steel, aluminum, and regional economic security. 🚗⛓️

The negotiation teams were led by Mexico's Economy Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, and the US deputy trade representative, Jeffrey Gerrish. They are moving fast to get their ducks in a row before the formal six-year USMCA Joint Review officially begins on July 1, 2026.

What's next on the calendar? 🗓️

  • Round 2: The conversation moves to Washington on June 16 and 17, where they'll focus on agriculture, fair competition conditions, and more talks on rules of origin.
  • Round 3: The teams will head back to Mexico City during the week of July 20 to iron out any pending issues.

Mexican Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard expressed confidence after the meeting, stating that they are already on the right path toward completing the review. With the official review date just around the corner, these partners are working hard to keep the economic engine humming! 🌍✨
