Tech for All: Nairobi’s IAC 2026 Pushing for AI & Digital Inclusion! 🌍✨

Nairobi is currently the epicenter of a major conversation about the future of tech! The city is hosting the 7th Inclusive Africa Conference (IAC 2026), bringing together governments, innovators, and civil society to make sure the digital revolution doesn't leave anyone behind. 💻🚀

Organized by inABLE in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the conference is tackling a critical challenge: ensuring that Africa's 80 million persons with disabilities are fully integrated into the continent's booming digital economy. Because let's be real—innovation is only truly "innovative" if it works for everyone, right? ♿✨

Irene Mbari-Kirika, the founder and executive director of inABLE, didn't hold back during the discussions. She posed a powerful question to the attendees: "Are we building a digital economy that truly serves everyone, or are we leaving over 80 million Africans with disabilities behind?"

One of the biggest takeaways from the event is the need to stop relying so heavily on imported assistive technologies. Mbari-Kirika is calling for a shift toward local manufacturing. By creating these solutions right here in Africa, the continent can not only solve its own accessibility hurdles but also create new jobs and boost the local market. 🛠️🌍

Beyond the hardware, the conference also emphasized the importance of early education. According to Mbari-Kirika, waiting until after graduation to develop digital skills is "already too late." The goal is to integrate accessibility and tech skills early on, ensuring the next generation of professionals is ready to lead from day one. 🎓💡
