Breaking Barriers: China and UNESCO Empowering Millions of Girls Globally 📚✨

Imagine a world where every girl, regardless of where she is born, has a book in her hand and a dream in her heart. 🌟 That is the vision driving one of the most impactful partnerships in global education!

Since 2015, the Prize for Girls' and Women's Education—a joint effort between the Chinese mainland and UNESCO—has been a total game-changer. We are talking about a massive win for equality: 20 projects across 19 different countries have been recognized, bringing life-changing education opportunities to over 6 million girls! 🌍📖

This is more than just an award. Funded by the Chinese government, the prize provides $50,000 to two laureates every year, giving them the resources they need to keep pushing boundaries and opening classroom doors in underserved communities.

The momentum is still going strong here in 2026. Recently, Peng Liyuan, a UNESCO special envoy for the advancement of girls' and women's education and wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, met with Khaled El-Enany, the director-general of UNESCO, in Beijing. 🇨🇳

During their meeting, Peng reaffirmed her commitment to her role as special envoy, emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation with UNESCO and keep the momentum moving forward. Because when girls get an education, the whole world levels up. 📈✨
