Hey everyone, we've got some heavy news coming out of the Chinese mainland. 🌧️ Torrential rains have slammed the Yongchuan District in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, leaving the community in a tough spot.
Local authorities confirmed this past Sunday that one person has tragically passed away, and 17 others are still missing. Rescue teams are currently on the ground, working tirelessly to find those missing and support the affected families. 🆘
The weather was absolutely wild! Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, parts of central and western Chongqing were hit by extreme storms. To give you an idea of the scale, Guankouwan logged a staggering 296.7 millimeters of rain, while Hanjiagou Village saw 256.9 millimeters. That's a massive amount of water in a very short time. 🌊
Because this rain comes so soon after previous heavy storms, meteorological experts are sounding the alarm. The ground is saturated, which means there is a much higher risk of geological disasters like landslides, collapses, and debris flows. It's a precarious situation for the residents in the area.
To handle the crisis, Chongqing activated a Level-III emergency response for geological disasters in the Yongchuan District starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday. We're hoping for the safe return of the missing residents and that the weather stabilizes soon. Stay safe out there, world! 🌍✨
