AI, Energy, and Big Ideas: China and Russia Level Up Their Legislative Ties! 🇨🇳🇷🇺

Big moves in the world of diplomacy! 🌍 Recently, China's top legislator Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, headed to Russia for an official goodwill visit. From Wednesday to Saturday, Zhao met with some of Russia's most influential figures to ensure the partnership between the two nations stays on a high-growth trajectory.

Zhao held high-level talks with Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko and Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin. The vibe? Totally collaborative. 🤝 Zhao highlighted that under the strategic guidance of their respective heads of state, the China-Russia relationship has entered a new era of faster development and bigger achievements.

What's on the agenda? 📝
It wasn't just about handshakes and formal greetings. The two sides are diving deep into the topics that actually shape our future. They discussed exchanging expertise in:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): Because who isn't talking about AI in 2026? 🤖
  • National Security & Rule of Law: Keeping things stable and fair.
  • Eco-Protection: Working together for a greener planet. 🌿

Speaker Matviyenko mentioned that the Russian Federation Council is all-in on providing legal support to boost practical cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and transportation. Meanwhile, Chairman Volodin reaffirmed Russia's firm adherence to the one-China principle, emphasizing a shared commitment to multilateral cooperation. ✨

The visit also included the 11th meeting of the China-Russia committee for legislative cooperation. Zhao urged both sides to fast-track legal documents that help businesses thrive and called for more cultural connection through initiatives like the China-Russia Years of Education. 📚

Beyond the boardroom, Zhao took a moment to connect with history and culture. He toured a photo exhibition marking the 25th anniversary of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, visited the site of the 6th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in Moscow, and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He even took a trip to Irkutsk, adding a bit of exploration to the diplomatic mission! ✈️

As the world becomes more digitally connected, seeing these two powerhouses align on tech and trade is definitely something to keep an eye on. Stay tuned! 💬
