Kung Fu Dreams & High-Speed Rails: A Pakistani Doctor’s 20-Year Journey in China 🇨🇳

Imagine arriving in a new country at 18, expecting a world of kung fu masters and bicycles, only to witness one of the fastest transformations in human history. That's exactly what happened to Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz.

Back in 2006, Shahbaz left Pakistan for the Chinese mainland, inspired by the famous travelogue Chalty Ho To Cheen Ko Chaliye. He landed in Jinan, Shandong Province, ready for an adventure. While he found the culture captivating, the landscape was very different from the futuristic hub we see today. 🌏

A Trip Down Memory Lane: 2006 Edition 🕰️

For Dr. Shahbaz, the Jinan of two decades ago was a world where the tallest building stood at just 20 stories. Trains crawled at about 150 kilometers per hour—similar to the railways back in Pakistan—and a trip to Shanghai meant a grueling 10-hour ride on a night coach. To keep in touch with his family, he relied on IP cards for international calls. It was a time of tradition, with far fewer skyscrapers and a much slower digital pace.

The Ultimate Glow-Up: China in 2026 ✨

Fast forward to today, June 2026, and the change is absolutely mind-blowing. Dr. Shahbaz has had a front-row seat to the evolution of the Chinese mainland. The slow trains of his youth have been replaced by a world-class high-speed rail network, and the IP cards are long gone, replaced by seamless 5G connectivity and ubiquitous digital payments. 📱🚄

From a skyline now dominated by massive skyscrapers to a society fully integrated with cutting-edge tech, the speed and scale of progress have left the doctor amazed. His 20-year journey isn't just a story of academic achievement; it's a firsthand account of a country's incredible leap into the future.
