Kenya’s Fuel Strike Ends: Back on the Road! 🚌💨

Things are finally looking up in Kenya! After a tense few days that left many people stranded, the nationwide transport strike has officially been called off. 🚌✨

For those who weren't following, the situation got pretty intense. On Monday and Tuesday, Nairobi and several other cities basically came to a standstill. With no public transport, many Kenyans had to walk long distances to get where they needed to go, and businesses and schools had to close their doors. Unfortunately, the unrest wasn't without a cost, with reports of at least four deaths, 30 injuries, and over 700 arrests nationwide. 😔

So, how did it get solved? 🤝 The Federation of Public Transport Sector chair, Edwin Mukabana, announced the end of the strike following high-level discussions with President William Ruto in Mombasa this past Friday. Mukabana has now instructed all drivers, conductors, and investors to get their vehicles back on the road immediately.

The big win for the operators was a series of fuel price reductions. Diesel prices are getting another Ksh10 (about 0.077 USD) cut for the June–July cycle. This follows a previous Ksh10 reduction announced by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi. While the operators originally wanted a much larger cut of up to Ksh46, these adjustments are helping ease the pressure.

Starting June 15, the new prices in Nairobi will be:

  • Diesel: Ksh222.86 per litre
  • Kerosene: Ksh191.38 per litre
  • Super petrol: Ksh214.25 per litre

President Ruto pointed out that these high fuel costs aren't just a local issue—they're a global struggle, with many countries dealing with shortages and rationing. 🌍

With the strike over, the energy is returning to the streets, and Kenyans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Safe travels everyone! 🇰🇪💬
